Sometimes this loved one and I have the same shoulder-to-cry-on phone call we’d had three weeks prior; sometimes they're enjoying fulfillment and clarity during long seasons of sobriety; sometimes, by the end of a roller coaster conversation, they swear off alcohol for good, only to then go radio-silent for a month as they crawl back into their poisoned hole.
This more-than-a-decade-long pattern of hope and defeat is exhausting, but, at this point, I feel like all I can do is hope…and offer love and guidance when they choose to reach out.
If a listener finds themselves offering support in a similar dynamic, I hope this song makes them feel like they aren't alone in their effort to heal the one they care about. If a listener is in need of comfort, I hope they can find some through this music.
